In the summer of 2009 our Gambella village was attacked by the neighboring village. Seven Gambella men were shot and killed, and over 1,000 animals were stolen. Desperate drought here breeds such violence.
But this water well being drilled may be a key to future peace.
A peace conversation was facilitated by the government, our GHNI worker Hassan, and elders from both villages. They agreed to drill this well between Gambella and the neighboring village to foster cooperation for a brighter future.
The well will provide irrigation for both villages to grow life-saving food.
